The junior prize went to Piper Halcrow and Olivia Ricche from <a href=\"https:\/\/stmarysschooloakridge.wordpress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">St. Mary&#8217;s Catholic School<\/a>, the team responsible for &#8220;Mutant vs. Wild: Who Will Survive.&#8221; Their project was a careful analysis of mutant and wild fruit fly responses to different concentrations of organic compounds. Hunter Vallejos of <a href=\"http:\/\/highschool.ortn.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Oak Ridge High School<\/a> took home the senior prize for his project: &#8220;1\/f Power Spectra and Fractals in the Heart&#8221; in which\u00a0he investigated different kinds of noise in electrocardiogram signal data.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>NIMBioS Graduate Assistant <a href=\"https:\/\/legacy.nimbios.org\/personnel\/gras\" target=\"_blank\">Jason Bintz<\/a> and Education &amp; Outreach Intern Virginia Parkman assisted with the judging.
