Summary. Current attempts to model gene regulatory networks utilize both continuous and discrete (Boolean) models. Though continuous models yield more accurate quantitative information, they require more detailed information about parameters and are more difficult to verify experimentally. In contrast, Boolean models are easier to analyze and often yield useful qualitative information about the dynamics of the underlying system. Recent research has focused on the comparison of these models in an attempt to determine conditions under which the two models are consistent.
