Summary. In the mathematical modeling of biological systems, it is often challenging to validate a model. Within the experimental design literature there are criteria which can dictate a sampling strategy to minimize either parameter estimate error or minimize model prediction error. These criteria are directly related to a measure of the statistical complexity of the model. This minisymposium will bring together experts in experimental design and model selection from applied mathematics and statistics for a set of presentations on most recent developments in classic and adaptive experimental design techniques for dynamical system models.
