In Memoriam: John C. New, Jr.

John C. New, Jr., NIMBioS Associate Director for Postdoctoral Activities, passed away suddenly on Oct. 15, 2013. Dr. New will be deeply missed by the NIMBioS community. In addition to serving in his leadership role helping postdoctoral fellows at NIMBioS, Dr. New was deeply involved in NIMBioS activities from its inception in 2009, particularly NIMBioS Education and Outreach activities. Dr. New helped organize and lead the Research Experiences for Veterinary Students and the Research Experiences for Undergraduates program and participated in several Investigative Workshops, including Modeling Bovine Tuberculosis, Modeling Free-roaming Cats and Rabies, and Modeling Wildlife and Virus Zoonoses. Dr. New also gave his time generously to numerous Education and Outreach activities, including giving tours of the Veterinary School to middle school girls and mentoring many REU students. NIMBioS was fortunate to have Dr. New as a colleague and friend.
