Self-supported Visits
Description
Due to the evolving coronavirus situation, in-person NIMBioS activities are, with rare exceptions, on hold through December 31. However, we are hosting virtual visits as part of NIMBioS Interactive. Applications for visits to take advantage of the NIMBioS Interactive platform are encouraged. Proposed visit dates MUST be at least two weeks after the submission date.
NIMBioS is open to self-supported visitors who do not need financial support for visits of up to several months duration, with the length of stay determined by the objectives of the proposed project. Such visitors may propose to include a mixture of Working Group, Investigative Workshop and outreach activities as part of their effort while in residence, and we encourage applicants to suggest creative ways to expand their expertise while in residence. In addition, visitors are expected to interact with other NIMBioS resident and visiting researchers. NIMBioS will provide office space and computing support during the stay.
Self-supported visitors are chosen based upon indications that the applicant's research plans are consistent with the mission of NIMBioS, the applicant has the demonstrated ability to carry out the proposed research, and that the opportunities provided through NIMBioS will enhance the capacity for the research to be completed in an efficient and timely manner. The proposed research will also be subject to the availability of space. The research questions to be addressed may be either fundamental, applied or both, and may be focused around a particular biological topic, or one from mathematics that is driven by biological insight. We are particularly interested in research that integrates diverse fields, requires synthesis at multiple scales, and/or makes use of or requires development of new mathematical/computational approaches.
Requests must be received at least two weeks before the start of a proposed visit. If approved, self-supported visitors would be required to pay a $15 per calendar month per person registration fee for access to the NIMBioS Interactive platform.
Application and Submission Process
To apply, you must complete an application on our online registration system:

- Login or register
- Complete your user profile (if you haven't already). ALL people planning to participate in the Short-Term Visit must create user profiles on our system.
- Find "Short Term Visitor Request for Support" under "Current Events Open for Application" and click on "Apply". If multiple visitors are coming as a group, ONLY ONE person should submit the actual application through the system.
Note that information contained in applications for NIMBioS support are governed by the NIMBioS Privacy Policy.
